24 Hours of Clear Springs (24HOCS) Mountain Bike Race - Team Buckwheat which is lead by Midsouth Master's Rusty Bernard took first place again at the 24 Hours of Clear Spring mountain bike race held in the Homochitto Forest near Meadville, MS.  The race starts on Saturday at noon and ends at noon on Sunday.  Other members of this year's team included Jason Miller, Dave Moeller and Mike Breaux with Rosanne Simons handling logistics / support.  Things started out close with three of the teams shifting places throughout the first half of the race.  By the time Sunday morning rolled around, Team Buckwheat had put at least one lap into all teams and had first place all but assured.  The team was able to again complete 24 of the approximately 10 miles laps in 24 hours of racing.  2011 will mark the end of the 24 HOCS race which Team Buckwheat has won three of the last four years.  (read Jason' s race report here)

LA / MS State Road Race Championship - Ed Novak got into an early break of Master 35+ riders including Scott Kuppersmith and Tracy Martin during the first lap and stayed away for the rest of the race to take third place in the District Road Race held in Natchez State Park.  During the same event in the Master 45+ category, Jason Miller got away with Frank Moak and were later joined by Donald Davis and also stayed away from the field the rest of the race to finish third.  Jay Scheib and Robert Santopadre also raced for the team.
Tour de Louisiane Stage Race - The monkey was finally off our back as Jason Miller won the Tour de Louisiane Stage Race GC.  After four consecutive years of second place finishes and near misses, the team was able to move Jason into first on Sunday's criterium.  Racing for NOLA Lending were Charlie Davis, Ed Novak, Jay Scheib, Jason Miller, and Jerry Simon.  A five rider break which included Jason put 5 minutes into the field on Saturday's road race with Jason finishing in third.  Ed took third in the Saturday evening Time Trial with Jerry and Jason finishing in the top 10.  A hard pace in the criterium dropped some of the other GC contenders and a hot spot time bonus pretty much iced the GC win for the team.  (Read Jason Miller's race report here)

West Feliciana Omnium Race - Things were looking pretty strong for the NOLA Lending Racing Team heading into the St Francisville race with a full team of Charlie Davis, Ed Novak, Jay Scheib, Jason Miller, Jed Darby, and Jerry Simon.  Things headed a bit south as Jed crashed in a practice ride and had to pull out while confusion around the time trial caused Jerry to miss his start and Jay to delay his.  We had to push the pace in the afternoon criterium hoping to tire a seemly undefeatable Donald Davis.  Ed probably spent close to half the race off the front but a chasing field kept that plan from working and we had to settle for a mid-pack finish.  Things finally started came together on the Sunday road race.  With Donald already all but assured the omnium win, we were able to focus on the rest of the riders to move Ed up.  Jerry attacked early in the race and Jason eventually bridged up to him with Donald and forced any other GC hopefuls into a hard chase.  After several miles the pack finally caught the break away setting up Ed's attack which would stick and lead to his winning the road race.  The rest of the team was able to control the pack enough to let selected riders go up the road allowing Ed to jump ahead of other riders into second place in the overall omnium.
LA / MS District Criterium Championship / Rhino Renovators Contraband Race - Jerry Simon won the Masters race at the District Criterium in Lake Charles.  The NOLA Lending Racing Team fielded four other racers besides Jerry including Charlie Davis, Mark Graffagnini, Jason Miller and Jay Scheib.  The team took turns attacking the field consistently putting a rider off the front in a break or solo throughout the race.  Late in the race, Jerry broke away with another rider and won the two man sprint to take the win.
Mississippi Gran Prix - Jay Scheib took third place overall in the Masters MS Gran Prix Race by jumping in with an early break away in the Circuit Race on Sunday and moved up close to 10 spots on the GC to get on the podium.   Jed Darby, Jason Miller and Jerry Simon along with Jay kept attacking the pack during Saturday morning's road race trying to set up a break.  Although nothing stuck, it did break up the field and Jed was able to take second place in the road race.  Jed placed 6th in the afternoon time trial and was in 5th place in the GC going into Sunday's Circuit Race.  Jay's break away started within the first mile of the race and the chase group ran out of steam close to the finish line.  Jay took third in the race plus a hot spot bonus.  Jed won the pack sprint for 5th place and finish 8th overall in GC.  The Cat 1/2/3 field is always large and very competitive in this event.  Diego Ortiz and Ed Novak races in this which also includes a Friday evening Criterium.  Diego got into the main break but lost contact when some lapped riders jumped in with them and opened up gaps.  Ed crashed out with a couple laps left and broke a few fingers and had to pull out of the other races.  Diego completed the races with the pack.

Rouge Roubaix - The NOLA Lending Racing Team did not have the best of days at this years Rouge Roubaix race.  Diego and Ed did the Category 3/4 race while Jerry and Jed raced with the Masters.  Mechanical issues and crashes pushed everyone down in the middle of the pack with results.  This has always been a race where you need a little luck to fare well and this wasn't a lucky day for the team.

Ed Novak wins TCC Time Trial in Monroe - Ed Novak got the NOLA Lending Racing Team off to a fast start in the 2011 season by winning the TCC 20 km time trial race in Monroe.  Ed not only took first place in the Category 3 race but also posted the fastest time for the entire event beating the second place finisher by 30 seconds.  Ed also took third place in the Cat 1,2,3 Criterium Race held the day before.

Jed Darby joins Midsouth Masters - The club welcomes Jed Darby who will begin racing with our NOLA Lending Racing Team in the 2011 season.  Jed has been racing for the Precision Bike Racing Team out of Lafayette for the last few years.  He was the Category 3 LAMBRA Cycling Cup Champion in 2009.   Jed has maintained a very active racing schedule over the last several years and will be a welcome addition to the team.
